ABOUT US

Who We Are

We are a Christ-centered Body of Believers whose mission is to fill the community with people who love God, love people, and live the Word resulting in the multiplication of Christ followers in the world. We do this by living out our values and beliefs as we gather as a church and live our daily lives as individuals in our homes and community.

OUR BELIEFS

01 THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God for the Christian faith and living.

02 THE TRINITY

We believe there is one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

03 JESUS

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His perfect life, His death on the cross, His resurrection on the third day, and His ascension to God the Father.

04 SALVATION

We believe that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ was sufficient to cover the sins of humanity. Anyone who is willing to repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord will be saved.

05 HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells the believer upon accepting Jesus Christ as Savior, enabling them to live a godly life.

06 BAPTISM

We believe in water baptism by immersion of a believer in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

07 THE LORD'S SUPPER

We believe the Lord’s Supper should be taken frequently by believers except those living in unrepentant sin. It’s a symbolic act of obedience where believers partake of bread and juice representing the body and blood of Jesus in remembrance of His sacrifice on the cross.

OUR VALUES

01 PRAYER AS A CONTINUAL CONVERSATION WITH GOD

We believe in the importance, power, and essentiality of prayer, speaking, and listening to God. We develop a life of prayer by meeting each day in intimate communication with our Father and by setting aside time to pray with and for each other. When we tell someone in need that we will pray for them, we keep our word by doing so. We develop the desire to “pray without ceasing” by bringing everything to God, big and small, anytime and anywhere, as we walk daily with God.

(Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:17)

02 WORSHIP AS A WAY OF LIVING

We believe worship is “all in,” whether in our gatherings together, in our homes, at our jobs, in our schools, or out in our community. Worship is giving our minds, bodies, and spirits over to God’s transforming power. We believe in the importance of regular corporate worship together led by the Spirit and based on the truth.

(Romans 12:1-2, Hebrews 10:25, John 4:24, Colossians 3:17, 1 Corinthians 10:31)

03 EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO

We believe in excellence, not perfection. Details matter to God, both small and big. God’s kingdom is great, not average. God is a great king, not an average king. Godly excellence seeks approval from God, not applause from people. Excellence is a posture of the heart rooted in using with your whole heart what God has provided. Godly excellence points people to the perfect King. Excellence, not perfection, means neither letting perfection become the enemy of the good nor settling for “good enough” to become the enemy of excellence.

(2 Chronicles 2, Ecclesiastes 9:10, Daniel 6:3)

04 THANKFULNESS FOR EVERYTHING WE HAVE

We believe in an “attitude of gratitude” in and for everything. We thank God for whatever comes our way and the circumstances we find ourselves in. We thank God in “good” times or “bad” because we know all things, regardless of how they seem, are being worked by God for our good and His glory. Such an attitude of gratitude is a powerful way we live out the gospel in us.

(Ephesians 5:20, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Romans 8:28)

05 GENEROSITY WITH EVERYTHING WE ARE GIVEN

We believe our generosity reflects our gratitude. We express our gratitude as we give generously from all God has given us – our time, talents, money, and service. We believe all we have comes from God, and we are to give from what He has given us cheerfully, not as an obligation but as an act of worship.

(2 Corinthians 9:7;11, 1 Timothy 6:18, Romans 11:36)

06 CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF GOD

We believe in the importance of celebrating together the goodness of God and what He is doing in and through us. We celebrate to remember that goodness, and to express our joy in the God we serve. We celebrate as an act of worship. We celebrate the greatness of the God who loves us.

(Psalm 145:7, Philippians 4:4, Psalm 150)

07 HUMILITY IN WHO WE ARE

We believe humility is seeing ourselves in the right relationship with God and others. We believe humility is essential to walking with God. We believe humility is necessary for effective prayer with God and that we experience God’s grace as we humble ourselves before Him. We humble ourselves in gratitude to God because Christ humbled Himself for us.

(Micah 6:8, 2 Chronicles 7:14, James 4:6, Philippians 2:8)

08 EVANGELIZING THE GOSPEL IN WORD AND ACTION EVERYWHERE

We believe every saved Believer is a citizen of the Kingdom of God who holds the high office of “Ambassador for Christ,” charged with carrying the message of reconciliation between sinful human beings and a Holy God. Our mission given to us by King Jesus is to go into the world sharing the gospel and making disciples. That mission is reflected in all we do and in all the values we share.

(2 Corinthians 5:17-20, Matthew 28:16-20)

09 UNITY IN OUR DIVERSITY

At Sunrise City Church, we believe in unity, “We is greater than me.” We live in a divided nation with significant cultural, racial, economic, social, and political diversity. We believe the Body of Christ is comprised of people from across this diversity, but we believe diversity must never create division. We believe in unity, not uniformity. We believe we are all created equally in the image of God but are also created uniquely by God as individuals. As unique individuals who have come together as part of the Body of Christ called Sunrise City Church, we are unified by our one purpose as Christ followers, to glorify God by sharing the gospel and making disciples of all people. We believe Sunrise City Church is a place where all are welcomed, all are loved, and where we all help each other live up to our high calling as Ambassadors for Christ.

(Galatians 3:28, Ephesians 2:19)
